If you are not in Taiwan

  • Overseas test sites and dates are listed on SC-TOP's global test page. Fees and registration are set by each site. Many overseas sites give listening and reading by band, so check whether you need to choose Band A, B, or C.
  • If there is no test site near you, or no test within two months, you can apply for the home edition. It covers listening and reading only, costs NT$3,000, and needs a computer with a webcam, wired headphones, Chrome, and a closed room. Results are available about 20 days after the test.

Choosing a session

Work back from the date you need your result:

  • Most deadlines need the score report, which comes out about 3 weeks after a listening and reading test.
  • Registration closes about 4 weeks before the test.
  • So you need to register about two months before your application deadline.

If you are sitting the test for a deadline, choose a session that leaves one more session before the deadline, in case you need to take it again.

FAQ

What photo is accepted?

A recent headshot (taken in the last six months) on a light background, facing the camera, showing your full head and upper shoulders. No hat or head covering, both ears visible, and hair not covering your eyes or eyebrows. Once a photo is approved, it cannot be replaced. See the test regulations.

Will I get an admission ticket?

No ticket is mailed. SC-TOP emails a test notification letter five days and two days before the test. On test day, bring your original passport or ARC. If you are more than 20 minutes late, you will not be let in.

Do I need to choose Band A, B, or C for listening and reading?

Not in Taiwan. Listening and reading in Taiwan is one computerized adaptive test (CAT) that covers every level, and your score decides your level. Many overseas test sites still give the test by band, so you choose Band A, B, or C when you register there.

How long does it take to get my results?

For listening and reading in Taiwan, about three weeks. For speaking and writing, about four to six weeks.

Can I take listening and reading and speaking on the same weekend?

Yes, at sessions that offer speaking. If you also add writing, you get 20% off the total.
